Politics, Pandemic & Pumpkins Oh My!

2020 is over. I’m grateful, but the scars of it remain. Ideas about the pandemic, and politics have people still in a form of a holding pattern, and are more divided than I have witnessed in all of my life.

People have become very boisterous with their opinions, but they are just that —opinions— There is simply no way possible for anyone to know the ins and outs of everything when it comes to the pandemic or politics.

The pandemic in my humble opinion was here way before we knew of it. That’s my opinion and I am well aware of the fact that I could be VERY wrong. Opinions are not facts. The issue I’ve noticed is that people are forming opinions based on information they derived from people and sources that they personally don’t know. Then they argue about their opinions with people they do know and have in their lives. The problem isn’t with the opinions, it’s that they are presented as facts. Where’s the humility of knowing we can be incorrect?

When people start to talk about politics, I can feel my eyes begin to glaze over. Then when I come to, I nod. Sometimes the other person is yelling. “Blah blah blah? – <eyes glaze over> have you not heard of the great pumpkin???!!!” Wait what? Did I just hear someone discussing the great pumpkin??? Nope, it wasn’t about Charlie Brown – damn! I would much rather discuss pumpkins, I love fall!

I know we all like to think that we know better, we would NEVER, “drink the Kool-aide”. The thing is we all have. If you have ever purchased something based on a commercial or emotions, you’ve had a sip. Sorry.

When you fall into watching, reading, and all things political, your amygdala in your brain is activated. In case you didn’t know it, that’s part of your reptilian brain. That means all frontal lobe activity (your intellectual properties) have gone out of the window. If you are YELLING that is a very tale tell sign that your logics have gone bah-bye.

Advertisers know this stuff. They know how to penetrate people with fear and other emotions. They know how to get into your brain’s amygdala to cause you to feel that your very life and existence depend on you acting in the way they wish. This is why highly intelligent people are duped. We all have that reptilian brain within us. So when people say the reptilian aliens are taking over, I can honestly say they have been here all along and reside right inside of you!

Politics should not be causing yelling or any actions that cause you to wish to hurt yourself or another person, place or anything. If you feel that way, your reptilian brain is running the show- cut it out, you’re a human being if you can read this.

If you find this happening to yourself or a loved one, you’re not alone. Take a deep breath and imagine the Great Pumpkin.

Well, anything you love, in the end we all love – love!
