Don’t Discuss Religion! 2

Don’t talk religion or politics?

Okay, I won’t.

But I want to.

But, I have an idea, let’s just say this is my very humble opinion, and all religion sucks. Why? They make us fight and create wars. Do you think humanity needs religion? I wish we didn’t, but where else would the pious be made to feel like they are better than all us a-hole sinners? Not at my house, dogs don’t clean, and I was told that’s next to Godliness? Oh snap! I’m screwed!

So, here’s how I feel about what’s been going on in the church I was raised in. It’s a mess, it’s been a mess, and will always be a mess!

I work as a medium and still go to church every Sunday. I don’t go out of fear, and not the feel like I’m all that and a bag ‘o chips; I go simply because my own mother is a Carmelite. I honor her by taking her, and I honor my own faith in the Divine by going. I stopped being a participating Catholic when I married a Southern Baptist. Without a large payment and bringing up the past, we could not have his marriage annulled, so we decided we were good, we knew God had brought us together.

It is the Divine that made me who I am as well. I honor that, and if you’re curious about how that works along with being a Christian, feel free to ask.

My belief is to honor all religions now. For example, did you know all religions believe in the, “golden rule”? I challenge you to find one that doesn’t. This simple rule tells me that we all have the Holy Spirit within us. Maybe it has different names to others, but so does the word “water”. Why should religion be any other way?

Do you recall the message of Christ? If you didn’t know, He was a rebel. Others did not forgive. They sacrificed for their Gods and barbarically killed. Christ said that God would build His church and it will never be destroyed (Matt 16:18)

He did understand that us crappy sinful humans would be left to run it. God made it, people will screw it up, and try to destroy it, but they won’t. His church has been around long enough for St. Peter to be have the first pope. He was one of the twelve apostles, he used to be called Simon, right? Yup, and he was a sinner. Catholicism has a lot of Christian spin-offs. I would like to remind people, that the Catholic church was the first Christian church. Yes, Catholics are Christians! The Church has been around long enough for some serious sins to be done against humanity; you can google a list here if you’re curious.

yet the church has survived. If you believe the Bible, it will continue to survive. That’s another topic for another day.

Being the rebels that forgive, is at the heart of Christianity. I think maybe people have forgotten, we are sinners. The pious church lady can kiss my lily-white behind, she’s a sinner too dammit.

Christianity is a place of rebels. A place where sinners can bring their broken hearts, awful sins, change, and find forgiveness. Christ embraced and loved regardless of our sins. He opened his arms to all, and healed all. This is because the world itself calls us to evil. We try to rise above it, but we fail. Because the Catholic church is ran by humans in a world that puts us on trial for simply being born, we can never measure up. We have Christ as an assist. Our rebel that can forgive us, and loves us without condition.

Yes, the crimes done are horrid, I personally could not forgive them, and Lord knows I can hold a grudge.

God made the Church, it isn’t going anywhere, as for the humans involved that’s up to God, not me.

My favorite priest growing up, gave me my first communion, and confirmed me in the faith, he always had eyes that lit up, was always kind, and I simply adored him. He was later accused of sexual abuse after his death. I have the hardest time believing the accusations. I had not been abused but only lifted up by his words and kindnesses. I’m grateful I’m not the judge, I can only pray for all parties involved.

My role is to do and be all I can in my small corner of the world, and remember the golden rule:

Treat others I as wish to be treated. Pretty simple isn’t it?

Love,

Katie
